The staff tool concept: training that lives in the apron pocket: project visual

The problem

Restaurant training materials mostly live where the team is not: a binder in the office, a PDF in an email, a poster by the time clock. During service, the standard is whatever the nearest person remembers.

The team side of our toolkit starts from a different assumption: the phone in the apron pocket is the only screen guaranteed to be at work every shift.

The approach

The prototype treats training like a menu: short structured items with one owner and a clear update path, instead of documents that fossilize the day they are printed.

Recipe cards, steps of service, and manager recaps are designed as phone-first cards a server can check in the side station in ten seconds, not chapters to study.

The same structure feeds a manager view: what changed this week, who has seen it, and what tonight's preshift should repeat.

What was built

  • Phone-first training card system design
  • Recipe card and steps-of-service templates
  • Manager recap and preshift flow

Where it leads

This prototype is the working model behind our Staff Training and Operations Hub services, and the demonstration we walk owners through when a binder is the thing currently holding the standard.
